Kat's brought intelligence and creativity to all her doings at CS-- we're so happy she's part of the crew! We asked a few questions about her time at work so far and here's what she said:

What are your go-to musical genres right now?

"I've been listening to a lot of Afrobeat lately, Tony Allen, and Lijadu Sisters especially. Also, part of me loves to hear "Dad Rock" in the summertime. The Last Waltz soundtrack has been in my personal rotation a bunch. If you catch me behind the counter at the CS store, you've probably heard me play at least one blues record. Little Walter, Hate To See is my favorite right now."

What are some records you've discovered while working at Carolina Soul?

Laura Lee - Women's Love Rights
Don Cherry, Albert Ayler, John Tchicai, Roswell Rudd, Gary Peacock, Sonny Murray - New York Eye and Ear Control
Reverend Pearly Brown - It's A Mean Old World To Try To Live In
Jeanette "Lady" Day - "Come Let Me Love You" 12-inch
Everybody Loves the Sunshine - Roy Ayers
Betty Wright - Danger High Voltage

How about your other Interests?

"I am a DJ at WXYC 89.3fm, UNC-Chapel Hill's student-run radio station and every now and then I DJ at local venues. I'm also really into coffee and I'm trying to learn how to cook more. I read comics and like a lot of nerdy stuff including video games and Dungeons and Dragons. Oh yeah, and you will probably see me around town playing Pokemon Go even when it's 90 degrees. No shame."

If you had to pick one favorite Durham lunch spot...

Twisted Noodles!

What Do You Like About Working At CS?:

"It's gotta be the people, everyone is so friendly. Every staff member has great knowledge of music and records and is willing to share that knowledge in a way that is unpretentious and welcoming. I also love that many of my coworkers also pursue creative past-times such as playing music or DJing. I think it's cool to see so many folks really involved in music or the arts outside of work and it keeps me motivated to do the same."
